DESCRIPTION:The 2nd TransOhio Transgender and Ally Symposium is quickly app
 roaching! This year\, the symposium will be during the weekend of August 14
 -16\, 2009. All symposium workshops and presentations will be on-site at Ca
 pital University Law School in downtown Columbus!\n\nTransgender issues c
 ontinue to increase in prominence in the national and state consciousness\,
  with increasing media attention and new significant legal developments tha
 t affect all facets of our society. TransOhio is an organization that conti
 nues to serve the Ohio transgender and ally communities by providing servic
 es\, education\, support and advocacy\, which promotes and improves the hea
 lth\, safety and life experience of the Ohio transgender individual and  co
 mmunity.\n\nThis year\, our keynote speaker is academic and author\, Hele
 n Boyd. Helen is the author of My Husband Betty (Thunder's Mouth\, 2004) wh
 ich was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award. Her second book\, She's Not
  the Man I Married: My Life with a Transgender Husband (Seal Press\, 2007)\
 , has been called "a postmodern\nreflection on transness" by Jennifer Finn
 ey Boylan. She has presented workshops at many conferences and has given ke
 ynote talks at gatherings such as First Event. Boyd's writing has also appe
 ared in anthologies edited by Matt(ilda) Bernstein Sycamore\, Vern Bullough
 \, and Michelle Tea\, and she lectures regularly at colleges. Boyd has also
  taught Gender Studies courses at Merrimack College (MA) and at Lawrence Un
 iversity (WI)\, where she also taught a course on transgender lives. Boyd w
 as also a finalist for a 2009 A Room of Her Own Foundation Grant.\n\nWe h
