DESCRIPTION:Curated by James Voorhies
\n
\nDescent to Revolution features a
rtist collectives and collaboratives that use urban spaces and social spher
es as means of production and backdrop. During the course of the exhibition
\, participating artists visit Columbus in a series of residencies of varyi
ng lengths of time to produce projects specific to the urban framework. Thi
s production does not take place inside the traditional space of a gallery
but in concert with community and physical mediums outside of it. The galle
ry is accessible but vacant. In it visitors find only information about how
\, when\, and where to participate in or engage with projects occurring thr
 oughout the urban geography.
\n
\nDrawing on the history of postwar collect
ive actions and ideas of French writers and theorists like Jean Baudrillard
\, Guy Debord and Henri Lefebvre\, Descent to Revolution investigates incre
mental shifts in cultural behaviors stimulated through production of knowle
dge and conversation\, pertinent to contemporary urban contexts. Within thi
s investigation is a critically evaluative examination of the role of the i
 nstitution of art--meaning the network of museums\, curators\, collectors\,
donors and critics--in the realization of projects by these forms of artis
 tic practices.
\n
\nVisit descenttorevolution.info to read about progress a
